Lobbying rail companies, government and other rail organisations.NRUG meets regularly with officials from rail companies and government. In 2006, we met Hugh Clancy, commercial director of First Capital Connect, together with local M P Tessa Jowell, who supports the group. On previous occasions, we have met officials from Southern Rail, the SRA and Network Rail.
Public meetings. NRUG hosts public meetings at least once a year. In May 2006, more than 50 people attended a meeting at the South London Theatre to discuss First Capital Connect services in the Norwood area. Speakers included Elaine Holt, managing director of First Capital Connect; Geoff Hobbs, head of policy and strategy, Transport for London; and Tessa Jowell MP.
Rail user surveys. In May 2004, NRUG conducted a survey of almost 200 commuters using Thameslink services at Tulse Hill station. The results of this survey revealed that 64% of commuters were dissatisfied with the existing service while 98% thought it was unreliable. Commuters also said they wanted a more frequent service including late evening.
